A proposed 100-unit hotel is under review, again at the Ulster Commons Plaza.

If news of a new Hilton brand hotel coming to the Ulster Commons Plaza at 1581 Ulster Ave. seems like news you've heard before, you have! And now it appears that the Town of Ulster Board has announced that they plan to meet again to discuss the hotel's plans.

Is a New Hotel EVER Coming to the Town of Ulster, NY?

That's the question many in the Town of Ulster have been asking ever since Ulster Hospitality LLC submitted plans to build a new hotel in September 2019. When plans were submitted in 2019, the town issued developers a site plan approval to begin the project but nothing happened.

Hotel Construction Delays in the Town of Ulster

Many blamed the pause in construction on the COVID-19 pandemic, but now that things are returning to normal residents and town officials are wondering what's next. To figure out the hotel plans the Town will hold a public forum on Thursday, November 2nd to determine what's next. The forum will start at 7:15 p.m. at Ulster Town Hall at 1 Town Hall Drive.

Ulster has extended the proposed hotel permit every year since 2019, with the most recent extension happening in April 2023. That extension had a provision that stated construction needed to begin by September 19th, 2023 but that hasn't happened according to the Daily Freeman.

Town of Ulster Supervisor James Quigley told the Freeman,

"Our town code says if you don't build within a certain period of time you have an expired permit."

Hilton Hotel Near Kingston, New York

If the hotel moves forward with construction it would fill the final six vacant lots at the Ulster Commons Plaza which already is home to a Tractor Supply store and Optum health care. Some residents have voiced their displeasure with another hotel being built in the town as this one would be the fifth hotel along Ulster Ave from the Hudson Valley Mall and the Tuytenbridge Road intersection.

Town and hotel officials haven't disclosed whether the new hotel would bear the Hilton name or not but as more information becomes available we will update this article.
