A Hudson Valley K9 helped sniff out a drug bust along I-87.

Vehicle Stopped in Saugerties, New York

According to a New York State Police, the Community Stabilization Unit "observed a 2025 BMW traveling northbound on Interstate 87 in the town of Saugerties."

The vehicle was allegedly in violation "of multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws."

This is when Troopers made a traffic stop and identified the driver as Jason Thomas, a 35-year-old from Schenectady, New York.

And that's when K-9 Kell got to work.

New York State K9 Helps Sniff Out Drug Bust

During the stop K-9 Kell was given the instruction to conduct an exterior and interior sniff of the vehicle.

While sniffing, K-9 Kell gave a positive alert for narcotics.

The press release goes on to add:

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed approximately 765 grams of cocaine and a large quantity of U.S. currency.

The 35-year-old from Schenectady was placed under arrest.

Saugerties Traffic Stop Leads To Several Charges

Thomas was arrested and then transported to the State Police in Kingston.

While there they charged him with the follow:

 

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree, Class A-I Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree with Intent to Sell, Class B Felony
  • Multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violation

The driver was arraigned at the Ulster county Central Arraignment and remanded to Ulster County Jail. Thomas is scheduled to return to court on August 25th, 2025.
