Poughkeepsie’s Blood Drive Honors Detective Killed in the Line of Duty

A blood drive to honor fallen Poughkeepsie Police Detective John Falcone is set for this month in Poughkeepsie, NY.

15 years ago, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department lost a man who was not only a dedicated police officer but someone who was a great man. On February 18th, 2011, Detective John Falcone made the ultimate sacrifice after he was shot and killed on the job while responding to a dispute involving a suspect who had murdered his wife and later turned the gun on himself.

John Falcone Remembered

Since his untimely passing, the community has participated in numerous events honoring Detective Falcone, including motorcycle rides, memorials, and more. A portion of Route 9 in Dutchess County, NY, was renamed Detective John M. Falcone Memorial Highway back in August 2014.

In February of 2021, Zeus Brewing in Poughkeepsie announced the release of a beer called "PK's Finest" to honor Falcone and planned to donate a portion of the proceeds to the charity of the City of Poughkeepsie's choosing. Soon after it was released, it quickly sold out.

It's amazing to see that the community refuses to ever forget Falcone and what he meant to the community. With that in mind, there is another annual event honoring Det. Falcone is happening this month!

Detective John Falcone Memorial Blood Drive

The annual John Falcone Memorial Blood Drive will take place on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. in the grand ballroom at the Grandview at 176 Rinaldi Blvd, Poughkeepsie, NY. The blood drive, sponsored by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, is asking anyone interested in donating to schedule an appointment online here. Use sponsor code FALCONE when scheduling.

This year, donors can receive a $20 e-gift card to select businesses.
