Master of the Stage and Screen, Donald Sutherland, Has Passed Away. He Was 88.

Donald Sutherland's illustrious career spanned more than half a century, leaving an indelible mark on both cinema and theater. Beyond his memorable film roles, such as in "MASH" and "The Hunger Games".

He also made significant contributions on Broadway. His performances included roles in "Buck White", where he starred alongside Muhammad Ali, and Edward Albee's "Lolita", showcasing his versatility and dedication to the craft of acting.

Kiefer Sutherland paid a heartfelt tribute to his father, Donald Sutherland, following the news of the esteemed actor's passing at the age of 88. Donald, renowned for his iconic roles in "The Hunger Games" series and "The Dirty Dozen", passed away in Miami after battling a long illness.

"With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away," Kiefer shared on Instagram, accompanying his message with a poignant photo of himself as a child with his father. "I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived."

 

Condolences from Hollywood poured in:

Cary Elwes, a long time family friend commented that he was "devastated" by Sutherland's death.

"Our hearts are breaking for you,"  Elwes told Kiefer in an Instagram message.

"So grateful to have known and worked with him. Sending our love."
