Have You Heard of The Healthy Park Trails Walkabout?

As the weather continues to get warmer across the Hudson Valley, many towns are giving community members opportunities to get outside and learn more about their neighborhoods.

Hyde Park has created a fun way to learn about and appreciate the "natural and historic landscapes that make Hyde Park such a special place." It's called The Hyde Park Healthy Trails Walkabout.

This program is open to local residents and visitors as well.  The Walkabout kicks off with a guided hike in April (the week of Earth Day), this years event is on April 25th, 2026.

Hyde Park Healthy Walkabout Trails Season

This year the Hyde Park Walkabout season begins on April 25th at Roosevelt Woods Trail.

It's a loop of approximately 2.1 miles where guests will pass "the FDR home garden, orchard, ice pond, historic forest plantations and stone works in a unique riverside woodland."

It's a free event, but registration is necessary. According to the event website:

The path is a maintained woods trail. Hikers should expect to navigate a moderate elevation change of about 100 feet and some moderately steep slopes.

Those that plan on partaking will meet at the Wallace Center at the Home of FDR National Historic Site at 9 am. The day should take about 3 hours in total.

Walkabout Season Brings New Patches For Participants

There's a bit of a fun challenge for those who want to participate in the Walkabout.

Take This Fascinating History Crawl Through Hyde Park, NY

Hyde Park, NY is located in Dutchess County, NY. It is the home to several prominent figures that played a role in how the world was once formed. Even though these members of society have passed on, their stories and legacies continue in our area.

I have had the chance to visit these historical sites and will always remember what each one meant to me, what I learned on the tours and how guests can continue to visit in 2023.
