Hudson Valley Theater Chain About To Compete With MoviePass
Look out, MoviePass. Just a few days after the company announced a new family plan, it's about to face some pretty stiff competition. According to Deadline, AMC Theatres is rolling out their own subscription service, and it offers some things that MoviePass doesn't.
AMC, which has locations in Middletown, Nyack, and Port Chester, has unveiled a new program called AMC Stubs A-List. For $19.95 a month, get three movies a week at any AMC theater. It'll let you buy tickets in advance, works for any format like IMAX or 3D, and allows for multiple movies a day, all things MoviePass doesn't do. It's a little more expensive than MoviePass's service, but if you live near an AMC theater, this could be a great option for you.
Of course, the great thing about MoviePass is that it works almost anywhere, whereas this plan will only work for AMC theaters. MoviePass also allows for a movie a day rather than limiting you to three movies a week. But this seems like it could be the start of a theater subscription boom; I wouldn't be surprised if Regal Cinemas revealed a similar plan pretty soon.
I've got a MoviePass, but if I lived near an AMC theater, I would strongly consider this new option. If you want in on the new AMC plan, it started this week!
