Hudson Valley Man Dies in Apparent Suicide on New Year’s Day
Police believe a Hudson Valley man committed suicide and jumped off a local bridge on New Year's Day.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into an apparent suicide at the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge, which occurred at approximately 2:40 pm on New Year's Day.
Sheriff deputies responded to the bridge in response to a 911 dispatch for a report of someone who jumped over the side and into the Hudson River. Upon arrival, a person was observed in the water close to the bridge, and witnesses were reporting that they observed a man park his car and then jump over the side of the bridge.
The man was removed from the water with the assistance of the Ulster Hose Company Fire boat and once removed from the water was confirmed dead, police say.
Authorities have identified the man as a 29-year-old from Red Hook, but his name hasn't been released. At this time the investigation is continuing, no criminal involvement is suspected, and the death is believed to be a suicide, officials say.
