One of my favorite things about living in the Hudson Valley is that we have really easy access to locally grown food. Just about every town has either a market or a farm stand that sells seasonal fruits and veggies. Some of the major grocery stores even carry local farm produce.

Local Farm Market Comments on Unstocked Shelves

One thing to keep in mind when you go to a local farm market is that, just like the big grocery stores, you may go on days that are busy, and it may feel like the shelves are empty. That doesn't mean that they are necessarily out of stock, so it is always good to ask.

I got thinking about this after I saw a post last weekend from a local farm market in Bullville, New York. Stonehenge Farm on Route 302 in Orange County made the decision to respond to a comment that was made toward them on social media.

Their willingness to address the comment made me want to share their reply and put a spotlight on our Hudson Valley Farmers, who grow delicious items for us all year long. According to the post, a comment had been left on an earlier post stating that the farm store was bare and that the produce was scarce.

The Stonehedge reply was simple, stating that they aren't a supermarket with truckloads of produce; instead, they are:

a small-town market run out of a converted two-bay garage. But what we do have is real, fresh, local produce. Stocked daily. Handled with care. (Stonehedge Farm via Facebook)

Their comment made me immediately think of how many times I have walked into the big chain grocery and walked over to get my favorite veggie or fruit, and the bin is down to the last two Brussels sprouts. I always figure everyone beat me to it.

Why You Should Shop At Hudson Valley Farm Stores

The nice thing about a farm market is that even if they are out of what I came for, there is always something that looks good that you can choose instead. You can't always say that at the big grocery.

So what I want to save to Stonehedge Farm and all the other farm markets in the Hudson Valley is to keep up the good work, and thanks for being there with fresh local food from local farmers.
