If you have spent anytime during the spring and summer outside here in the Hudson Valley, you have most likely had a run in with a tick.

Maybe it was on you or maybe on one of your pets, well the warmer months are almost here and we all want to do what we can to avoid ticks at all costs.

According to News 10, the National Pest Management Association has said that New York should prepare for a high amount of ticks this year. Ticks can spread Lyme disease, which if not treated could be deadly.

How can we protect ourselves this year? Well, the New York State Heath Department says that we can do a few things to avoid ticks like wear light-colored clothing, enclosed shoes, wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts.

They also say that it's a great idea to use insect repellant and avoid spending extended time in dense wooded areas.
