Man Found in Road is Suspected Hit and Run in Newburgh, New York
The Town of Newburgh Police are looking into what is believed to be a fatal hit and run that took place near the area of Old Little Britain Road and Unity Place earlier today (August 18, 2023). It appears that a man was struck while changing a tire.
The Town of Newburgh Police Department issued a press release this after noon stating that at approximately 7:50 AM this morning (August 18, 2023) they responded to an area on Old Little Britain Road near Unity Place. The call was for a what appeared to be an unconscious male in the road.
Early Friday Morning Accident Involving Broken Down Vehicle in Newburgh New York
When police arrived they found the victim next to a grey 2007 Suzuki Reno which appeared to be broken down. It was on the West bound should of the road. It is believed that the victim identified as 65 year old Monroe resident Walter Weiser was in the process of changing a tire when he was apparently struck by a passing vehicle.

Unfortunately the police who were able to render help to Weiser with the assistance of the Town of Newburgh Emergency Services weren't successful in saving his life. Weiser was late pronounced dead.
Police are hoping that the public can help them put together the timeline for the incident based on area cameras and other drivers in the area.
