Happy Father’s Day, Country Style
This Sunday is Father's Day and while I think about my Dad everyday, memories of growing up come flooding back on this day. Like the time the kids were teasing me because my name is Beth, it's not Elizabeth, it's simply Beth and they were taunting me that I didn't have a real name and that I wasn't as good as the other 'real' Elizabeths in our class.
I came home crying and sat on the edge of the tub while my Dad was shaving to get ready to go in on third shift. I told him what had happened. He turned, looked me in the eye and said that while other people might need a longer name to make themselves special, I didn't need that, I was special just as I was. I went from feeling like the lowest of the low to feeling just fine again in a matter of seconds. Talk about a good Dad.
I know that we all have our own special memories of our Dads, stepdads, grandpas, uncles, or other important men in our life and as we get ready to celebrate them this Sunday, here's a list of my ten favorite country songs about Dads. A musical Father's Day card if you will.
