Halloween DWI Checkpoint In Dutchess County

It's Halloween weekend, which means it's technically a holiday weekend. And like most holiday weekends we will see an influx of parties.

The Hudson Valley will be filled to the brim with ghouls and witches celebrating the spookiest holiday of the year coming up on Tuesday. With the partying of course comes the consumption of adult beverages.

Dutchess County will be participating in a state wide DWI crackdown starting on October 27th and running until Wednesday November 1st. According to a press release research has shown that visible enforcement can "reduce impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent."

Marc Molinaro, Dutchess County Executive, says "“If you plan on celebrating Halloween, please do so responsibly and plan for a safe ride home. The consequences of drinking and driving are too high, and the safety of our children who are trick-or-treating and your fellow motorists is our paramount concern. Impaired driving is wholly preventable and not worth the risk.”

The Halloween DWI crackdown is a statewide program with additional help from the STOP DWI Foundation.

Additional DWI stops will occur later this year during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
