Gregg Allman Responds to Rumors He’s in Hospice Care: ‘Keep Rockin”
After rumors began circulating that Gregg Allman is in hospice care, both Allman and his manager issued statements on Monday (April 24) about the artist's health. According to them, fans needn't worry that Allman is deathly ill.
Around 4:30PM ET on Monday, a message from Allman appeared on his official Facebook page: "I’m currently home in Savannah, [Ga.], resting on my doctor’s orders." Allman's manager also specifically denied the hospice rumors -- which Relix magazine reported -- to Variety.
"I want to thank you for all the love that you are sending," Allman's Facebook post continues. "Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Keep Rockin’."
Fans have been especially worried about Allman after the music icon canceled all of his 2017 tour dates, with no explanation offered, in mid-March. In November, Allman canceled all of his solo concerts scheduled through the end of 2016, explaining that he wanted “to take some real time off to heal;” he had, at the time, recently canceled two shows because of a bruised vocal cord. In August of 2016, Allman canceled another string of concerts due to “serious health issues,” which turned out to be pneumonia.
“Not making a show is a really hard decision for me because I want to play so bad, but it’s also hard on my partners and fans who make plans to be with me. I never want to put anybody in a bad spot. I’m so grateful for the people that I work with and for the fans that come to my shows, and I want to be at my best for all of them,” Allman said in a statement in November. “That means I’m going to have to wait until I’m feeling really good, not just good enough like I have been. Good enough isn’t working for us all.”
