About a month ago we shared a story about a new Hudson Valley K9.

His name is Skip and he was originally born in Hungary, but made his way over to the Orange County Sheriffs Office. In the upcoming months Skip will be training with his handler, Sergeant Dustin Palen, in Explosive Detection and Patrol training.

Now that he's officially started his career as a Hudson Valley K9, one kennel is hoping to raise enough money to protect skip in the line of duty.

Over the past several months, Hudson Valley K9's have received bullet and stab proof vests through different awards programs and charities. Most vests are donated due to the high cost, vest can run anywhere from $1,500 to $2,000.

Scottie of Next Level Kennels in Pine Bush put together a GoFund Me Campaign to raise $2000 in efforts to get Skip his own vest.

Skip was named in honor of Deputy Skip Dooley who was a part of the Orange County Sheriffs Office. Scottie writes on the GoFund Me page "Skip is a new dog to the department and was named after Deputy Skip Dooley who proudly served with the Orange County Sheriffs Department for many years. We want to keep his name sake safe while on the streets protecting us."

Next Level Kennels will also be holding an event on October 22nd at their location in Walden at 2241 Albany Post Road.
