With the weather changing and spring arriving in the Hudson Valley, pet owners are thrilled their furry friends can get out and get some fresh air.

While it's great to get your pets outdoors you also want them to be safe. Orange County residents can do so for free coming up at the end of April.

In a press release, Orange County Executive Steven Nehause announced that on April 28, Orange County residents will be able to vaccinate their pets for free.

From 10AM to 1PM a free clinic will be held at the Town of New Windsor Building and Grounds Department on the grounds of Stewart International Airport.

Orange County residents can pre-register for the event by calling the New Windsor Town Clerk at any of the following phone numbers:
845-563-4611
845-563-4612
845-563-5613

Dr. Jennifer Roman, who is the Orange County Acting Commissioner of Health, stresses the importance of getting your pet vaccinated stating, "Ensuring your family’s pet is properly vaccinated prior to possible exposure is critical to protecting yourself, your pet, and your community from rabies."

The free rabies vaccination clinic is open to dogs, cats and ferrets only. If you do bring your pet to the clinic, they must be properly leashed or in a carrier. You will also need to bring  proof of prior vaccination. Ferret shots are only good for one year.
