The Times Herald Record is reporting the sad news that Lee Siegel, who gave so much of his time, talents, and energies to Sullivan County, has passed away at the age of 95. He would have turned 96 on Monday.

Lee owned Siegel's Department store in Livingston Manor and also served on the Board of Education for Livingston Manor Central Schools, served 5 terms as Town of Rockland Supervisor and the Sullivan County Board of Supervisors, as well being an active member of numerous community organizations. In addition, he was a member and past president of the Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce as well as the Livingston Manor Rotary Club.

The New York State Senate honored Mr. Siegel in March of 2012 for special recognition by the Liberty and Livingston Manor Rotary Clubs stating, in part,

Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve in the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and whereas, Lee Siegel has given not only of his time and energies but also of his  competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently, has been designated for special recognition.

The resolution also stated that Mr. Siegel, throughout the entire period of his  community service, stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor. You can't ask any more of that from anyone.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lee's family and friends.
