We're expecting some nasty weather in the next 24 hours or so.

On Thursday, July 9th, Hudson Valley Weather reported that Tropical Storm Fay had officially formed off the coast of the Carolina's. Apparently Tropical Storm Fay is heading northeast and is predicted to get to the Hudson Valley later tonight and into Saturday.

As to what she should expect from Tropical Storm Fay, we should be ready to get hit with heavy rainfall and possible flooding. The National Weather Service has already issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Hudson Valley starting Friday, July 10th at 12 PM and lasting until Saturday at 12 PM.

Earlier this week, Newburgh saw some serious flooding in the area of Route 9W and Route 32 right before the exit to get on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.

So to prepare for the possibility of flash floods, the National Weather Service in Albany posted some useful information when it comes to driving during a flood.

Hopefully this doesn't come as a surprise to you, but you shouldn't be driving during a flash flood. The NWS explains how even 6 inches of rain can actually move vehicles.

Take a look at their chart below and they detail how different size vehicles, from cars to SUVS, can be carried away by fast moving water:

If you're planning on being out and about in the Hudson Valley this weekend, make sure you take this into account.

The National Weather Service is expecting the heaviest rainfall to take place overnight on Friday into Saturday morning.
