Flag Person Struck by Driver in Beacon, New York

According to a press release from the New York State Police (NYSP), a dangerous incident unfolded on Wednesday when troopers from the Wappinger barracks were called to respond to a report of a flag person who was struck by a vehicle.

Police said that it all started on September 3rd, 2025, at approximately 9:09 a.m., when troopers arrived at the scene along a section of Route 9D in the City of Beacon and quickly began an investigation.

Police Investigation Reveals Hit & Run in Beacon

The investigation determined that a flagger, who was directing traffic in a construction zone on 9D, was struck by a vehicle that bypassed two cars stopped at a temporary traffic signal. Police said that the flag person, who was not identified, repeated verbal commands for the driver to stop, but they continued driving southbound toward the flagger.

The driver, later identified as 33-year-old Rrezarta Bajramaj, advanced twice towards the flagger and made contact with the flagger’s legs before reversing and driving away, according to police.

Driver Arrested in Wappinger, NY

Once troopers identified Bajramaj, they were able to locate her a short time later at her residence in the Town of Wappinger, where she was taken into custody without incident. She was charged with Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor, and was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Fishkill Court.

Thankfully, the victim did not report any serious injuries.
