Why Use a Sauna? Advantages of Sauna Use

I love a few minutes sweating it out in a sauna. If I'm being honest it's one of the only reasons why I go to the gym.

However, there are a few benefits to using a sauna and it's not just for relaxation.

According to Women's Health there are several health benefits to sweating it out. Their experts, including doctors from all over the U.S., share that saunas can improve your skin, blood pressure and even help with your joints.

Purvi Parikh, MD (internal medicine physician and clinical assistant professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine) told Women's Health that sitting in a sauna is "almost like walking on a treadmill at a regular pace" and can help when it comes to circulation.

While there are many health benefits, we know relaxation is key.

A sauna in a relaxing location sounds pretty great, right? How about a sauna on a body of water?

KOS Sauna in Saratoga Springs, New York is officially open. They held a ribbon cutting ceremony on the floating sauna back on January 14th, 2026.

Their Facebook page explains they are "NY’s first public floating sauna, inspiring people to be happy, healthy, and connect through heat."

The floating sauna offers social or private sauna sessions as you float on Saratoga Lake.

Kate Butchart created KOS Sauna, and took her experience living in Norway for 7 years and brough it to New York. Butchart told NEWS10 in Albany that visiting a floating sauna 2 to 3 times a week was part of her daily life in Norway.

Butchart tells NEWS10  “It’s a transformative experience. There’s something really magical when you combine the hot with the cold water, beautiful surroundings and the public element.”
