Some say the best way to find inspiration is by getting out in the great outdoors. The Hudson Valley is one of the best locations to explore and hike and now find your creative roots.

Dutchess County Parks are offering an experience where you can hike a beautiful park and put pen to paper when inspiration strikes.

On Saturday, July 24th at 9:30AM Bowdoin Park in Wappingers will be hosting a Writers Hike. This event is in partnership with the Poughkeepsie Public Library District ( PPLD ) and the Hudson Valley Writing Project according to the Dutchess Parks Facebook page.

During this writer retreat, hikers will stop at two writing spots and one Plein air location where teaching artists will guide them through exploration and inspiration. Dutchess Parks explains "Participants will be led through a place-based approach to "designing-writing", play with visual art to inspire writing, and experiment with different forms to express the beauty of nature art."

The group of hikers will take on a roughly 2-mile trail that has a slight change in elevation and some uneven paths. This event is weather dependant and reservations must be made to partake in the Writers Hike. To make a reservation for the Writers Hike and for more information visit poklib.org.

Art supplies will be provided during the Writers Hike and the group will meet at the Ellessdie Chapel at 85 Sheafe Road.

Bowdoin Park recently was temporarily closed due to a nasty storm that blew through the area leaving a path of downed trees and power lines. Later it was confirmed that a microburst touched down in the area. Thankfully, all is back to normal at Bowdoin Park.
