We have been so preoccupied with polar vortexes and wind chills it almost slipped by without notice. This Saturday is Groundhog Day. The day we get to check in with Punxsutawney Phil to see if we get 6 more weeks of this lovely winter weather. Maybe it was the government shutdown conversations all over the news or maybe the controversy over the Super Bowl. But whatever it was I feel like no one realizes we also skipped Groundhog Day.

I can't believe I almost forgot. I haven't even seen the usual TBS TV guide listing for Groundhog Day the movie. I actually had to think about it before I wrote this blog. Is this Saturday really Groundhog Day? Could it be that our smart phone carrying, social media crazed lives have caused us to move so fast we are forgetting about "C" list days on the annual calendar.

Just because Groundhog Day doesn't have cards, candy or any of the other trappings of the holidays we mark on the calendar doesn't mean we should let the day go by unnoticed. And if we are going to overlook Phil, then there is surely no hope for Quentin the Quahog. This year's oversight I am going to blame on the fact that February 2nd coincides with the Super Bowl and Wing Wars West but fortunately we remembered in time because if Phil or Quentin are going to bring us good news about spring I want to know as soon as possible.

Official Update as of Feb 2: Both Staten Island Chuck and Punxsutawney Phil have agreed no more winter. We have yet to hear from Quentin the Quahog, I fear he maybe be "Chow der Here".
