Family Gets to Keep Hudson Valley Farm
It's great to see that farming is alive and local in the Hudson Valley.
Back in September of 2019 there was drama building in the local farming community in the town of Goshen as Jason & Kristin Touw contacted us to share their story about the possibility of them losing their farm to some bigger company's.
If you don't know the whole story, the Touws have been running and farming the Wagon Wheel Farm on the Kozareski lands in Goshen and Hamptonburgh for many years and recently they took serious steps to purchase the lands from owner Joan Kozareski. Up until the end of 2019 things weren't going very smoothly but we have received an update and it's great news for local, Hudson Valley farmers.
According to a press release from New York State Senator Jen Metzger, the Orange County farm is no longer at risk of being lost to development. The release said that after months of significant uncertainty, the Touws have an accepted offer and purchase agreement signed for Wagon Wheel Farm, and hope to close on the property come Spring.
Jason and Kristin Touw said that “The voices of our local residents and elected officials speak volumes to the importance of farms and the environment in Orange County. We are humbled and inspired by the amount of support that have received during this journey. We are grateful to have the chance to stay in Goshen.”
