Have you ever visited one of the many Ghost Towns in the Hudson Valley?

Doodletown: A Look Inside the Hudson Valley's Most Popular Ghost Town

Hudson Valley natives that are familiar with local history know all about Doodletown. The well known Ghost Town is located in Stony Point near Bear Mountain State Park and was once a thriving neighborhood.

Doodletown was settled in 1762, reached it's peak around 1945 and was condemned and vacated by 1965. Bits and pieces of this once lively neighborhood still exists today and many visit the Hudson Valley site.

BBC Global Dives into Popular Rockland County "Ghost Town"

The history is intriguing to many from in and around the region. Last spring, a filmmaker with the British Broadcast Company (BBC), Alexander Trowbridge, dove into ghost town allure.

What they focused on is how quickly nature takes over once humans move out and used Doodletown as their Ghost Town of Focus.

In a video posted in May of 2024, researchers from the BBC spoke with 2 authors: Alan Weisman, author of The World Without Us, and Cal Flyn, author of Islands of Abandonment: Life in the Post-Human Landscape.

Trowbridge asked what the mental impact is of passing through a Ghost Town like Doodletown? Flyn said "I think there's something quite humbling about a ghost town. It says to us your daily worries, your daily anxieties, one day this too will be dust."
