Cartoonist Scott Adams, who was born in Upstate New York, died months after revealing he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Most people who have lived in Poughkeepsie for a while know that the creator of the popular board game Scrabble was born in Poughkeepsie. Alfred Mosher Butts was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on April 13, 1899, and went on to help create one of the most successful games ever.

Dilbert Creator Scott Adams Has Died

Scott Adams, who was the most famous person born in my hometown of Windham, NY, has died, according to NBC News. Adams, the cartoonist behind "Dilbert," died months after sharing that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Adams revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis back in May and told fans that it had spread to his bones.

His ex-wife, Shelly Miles, posted a video on YouTube on Tuesday saying,

"Unfortunately, this isn't good news, he's not with us … anymore."

 

Scott Adams Remembered

Adams, who graduated from Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School in 1975, spent many years of his life entertaining people with the comic strip "Dilbert", which was featured in hundreds of publications worldwide.

Dilbert became so popular in the late 90s that it was turned into a television series, The Dilbert TV series, which earned a Primetime Emmy Award in 1999.

Dilbert Cancelled

In 2023, the comic strip was dropped by many publications after Adams made racist remarks, stating,

"Based on the current way things are going, the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from Black people."

 

Following his passing, President Donald Trump called him a "fantastic guy, who liked and respected me when it wasn’t fashionable to do so. He bravely fought a long battle against a terrible disease. My condolences go out to his family, and all of his many friends and listeners."

Vice President JD Vance said Adams was "a true American original, and a great ally to the President of the United States and the entire administration. My prayers go to Scott and all of you who loved him. We lost one of the good ones, but we’ll never forget him."
