Chef Boyardee’s Hudson Valley Ties
About a week or so ago, I made a confession on air that I quickly regretted. I forgot how we got on the topic of it, but I admitted that I had never eaten Chef Boyardee. Coming from my very Italian family, we never ate anything like that or Prego, nothing out of a jar when it came to Spaghetti, Macaroni, Meatballs or gravy (you probably call it sauce).
CJ gave me some heat about my confession and then realized that in our kitchen here at the station there is microwavable Chef Boyardee in our vending machine. I then ate a Chef Boyardee meatball...cold. The outcome was not pretty:
After our video surfaced a few of our listeners gave us a heads up about the local tie in with Chef Boyardee. The Foglia family over in Milton owns the delicious Ship Lantern Inn, they also happen to be the grandchildren of one of the original creators of Chef Boyardee.
CJ and myself took a trip to speak with Mike Foglia about his families history and the Chef Boyardee brand. I also took the opportunity to apologize for my actions after my first bite of Spaghettio's. Take an indepth look at the history of Chef Boyardee:
Now that I know the local history behind Chef Boyardee I appreciate it much more and will try it at some point again, but heated up.
