A select number of public buses are set to add a new way to monitor riders and keep them safe in Ulster County, NY.

Most of the counties in the Hudson Valley each have public transportation, offering riders a cheaper and, in some cases, free option to get from one place to another.

Orange County offers rides on Transit Orange, with fares ranging from $1-$5. In Dutchess County, riders have access to Dutchess County Public Transit with fares starting at $1.75, and in Ulster County, riders can use Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) for free. All of these organizations offer bus rides along routes in parts of their respective counties.

Ulster County Deputy County Executive Amberly Jane Campbell told the Freeman that the county has hired two stewards to try and "curb" unruly behavior on UCAT buses. The new stewards are the county's answer to problems that some riders reported having last year, including rider aggression and bad behavior.

Last December, the Ulster County Legislature approved using $131,498 of taxpayer money to hire two stewards to ride on UCAT buses.

Old Cemeteries in Ulster County New York

These old cemeteries are scattered throughout Ulster County, New York. If you are familiar with the area you have most likely driven by one. My question is have you ever stopped and taken a moment to think about history? Some of the people in these old family plots lived in the Hudson Valley during the 1700s. One thing I do ask is if you do come across an old cemetery please be respectful. These grounds are someone's final resting place they should be treated that way no matter how you find them. Taking anything other than possibly a stone rubbing or a photo is unacceptable.
