Beloved East Fishkill, New York Retired Detective Passes Away
The East Fishkill community is mourning the loss of an important community member.
Retired East Fishkill Detective Passes Away
Detective Mark DiDato worked for the East Fishkill Police Department for 21 years, retiring as a Detective in 2021. After retiring Didato became a School Safety Officer at John Jay Senior High School, where he graduated from back in 1991.
The East Fishkill Police Department shared that former DiDato has passed away. According to their statement released on social media on Tuesday, July 16th, 2024, Didato passed away on July 13th.
A cause of death has not been made public.
DiDato Family Mourns Loss of 2 Family Members
Mark DiDato was predeceased by his brother, Sergeant Daniel DiDato. Sergeant DiDato passed away in December of 2023.
The DiDato brothers were members of the East Fishkill Police Department.

Sergent DiDato passed away after a car accident on the Taconic State Parkway. His vehicle lost control as he was on his way to interview a suspect in an earlier accident.
Wappingers Central School District Mourns Loss of Beloved School Safety Officer
After retirement, Didato went back to his roots at John Jay Senior High School to patrol the halls as a School Safety Officer.
Not only did Didato provide security for the students and staff, but he formed important relationships with students and impacted their lives for the better.
In a letter sent out to Wappingers Central School District families, John Jay Principal David Kedzielawa writes:
Mr. DiDato was a beloved and integral part of our school family, dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff. His unwavering commitment, compassion, and professionalism were evident in all of his interactions. He worked tirelessly to create a safe and supportive environment, and we will all miss his positive impact on our community.
They add "This loss is deeply felt by all who knew him."
John Jay High School will be offering mental health professionals support services to those who may need it on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 16th and 17th from 9 am until 2 pm.
Calling hours for Detective Mark DiDato will be held on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024 from 6-8 pm and Thursday, July 18th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at McHoul Funeral Home in Hopewell Junction.
