Hannaford’s to Charge for Paper Bags
The ban of plastic bags at grocery stores will soon cost you some $$ at checkout.
It has been a hot topic for a few months now, the ban of single use plastic bags at grocery stores and according to News 10 you can no add another major grocery chain to list of stores that will charge 5 cents for paper bags.
Hannaford grocery stores located all throughout the Hudson Valley just announced that starting in March they will charge five cents for paper bags for customers who don't have their own reusable bags at checkout.
As it stands now, each county in New York can either charge for paper bags or not, but big chains like Hannaford and Price Chopper have decided to charge the fee. Both chains have said that they will find it easier to have the bag fee across all of their stores in New York instead of having it different at each store in different counties.
New York State's ban on single use plastic bags will begin on March 1st, 2020.
