Local police are reminding parents that at least two Hudson Valley Schools will be placed on a lockdown drill Thursday.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office sent out two alerts this morning in hopes of notifying parents that the Marlboro High School and Marlboro Middle School will be placed in a lockdown drill Thursday. The Marlboro Schools Administration Building will also participate in a lockdown drill.

Officials say there will be significant police presence at both schools. But urge parents to not be alarmed because the lockdown is a drill only.

School lockdown drills are done to protect and keep students and adults safe and prepared in the event of an emergency, like a school shooter.

According to childparentingabout.com school lockdown drills usually include the following procedures:

  • • Doors to classrooms are closed and locked.
    • Students are moved to the safest part of the room, away from windows and doors, to the interior walls.
    • Everyone drops to the floor or out out of the line of vision from the door.
    • Window shades are pulled down.
    • Any windows in doors are covered (to prevent an intruder from seeing into the room).
    • Classroom lights are turned off.
