9W In Ulster Park Closed Thursday After Scary Accident
On Thursday afternoon, many people traveling through Eastern Ulster County were rerouted due to a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred at around 3 PM. Initial reports on emergency service social media explained it as a head-on collision with entrapment.
Broadway which is also State Route 9W is a heavily traveled area during regular commenter hours. The accident which occurred at approximately 3:06 PM according to a press release from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office caused commuter traffic to be routed onto River Road through Ulster Park.
Head On Crash Closed Route 9W for Hours on Thursday
According to the report shared by the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, the accident involved two cars. It was considered a head-on collision and is still under investigation. The accident occurred on a stretch of Broadway just south of Port Ewen. The location is listed by the Ulster County Sheriff as being in the area of La Mirage Restaurant which has recently announced they will soon be Mountain View Mexican Restuarant.

According to the Sheriff's report, their deputies reported to a report of a motor vehicle accident with serious injuries. When they arrived they saw two vehicles in the center of the road and the occupants were trapped inside.
The preliminary investigation established that a 17 year old male was traveling southbound on Broadway in a 2004 Nissan Maxima when he was struck head on by the second vehicle, a 2017 Volvo, operated by Shannyn LaCroix, 24, who was traveling northbound. (Ulster County Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
The post also mentions that the accident involved an off-duty member of their agency's Corrections Division. The release did not identify that individual by name.
Traffic was rerouted off 9w north and south of the accident onto River Road in Ulster Park for hours while the investigation and cleanup were underway. The release went on to say that the 17 old male driver who had been traveling south was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in stable condition but with serious injuries.

The second drive Shannyn LaCroix was taken by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie in stable condition with minor injuries.
The Ulster County Sheriff's Deputies along with the New York State Police, Port Ewen Fire Department, Esopus Fire Department, Kingston Fire Department, Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Mobile Life Support Services, Ulster County Fire Coordinator, and Atlantic Air all helped at the accident scene.
