Kacey Musgraves Picks Up Best Country Song at 2019 Grammy Awards
Kacey Musgraves' song "Space Cowboy" earned Best Country Song at the 2019 Grammy Awards. The category captures the sound and spirit of country music for the last year, and the trophy is awarded to the winning song's writers.
Musgraves co-wrote "Space Cowboy" with Shane McAnally and Luke Laird. Although Musgraves was not at the pre-telecast Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony to accept the honor, her co-writers took the stage.
"Honestly, Kacey Musgraves is one of the greatest songwriters and artists of our generation, and just to sit in the room with her is an honor," McAnally, one of Musgraves' frequent collaborators, said. "She came in with this incredible idea, and we felt like we'd just been given the greatest gift."
Added Laird, who was choking up as he took the mic, added, "This is really unbelievable ... It's an honor for someone like me to get to work with the most talented people in the world."
"Space Cowboy" comes from Musgraves' third studio album, Golden Hour. That project is nominated for Best Country Album and the all-genre Album of the Year Award. Musgraves will also be performing during the 2019 Grammy Awards telecast, which will begin at 8PM ET on CBS.
