New York Region Makes Top US Outdoor Getaway List
It is not a surprise that people enjoy visiting New York but it sure is a pleasant surprise when that fact is verified by our state making a best-of list.
New York Region Makes Best of List with Yardbarker
Nowadays people can travel whenever and wherever they want. This means that they can be selective in their choices. When Yardbarker set out to list the 22 Best U.S. destinations for an active outdoor getaway I don't know if they were thinking of New York right away but we made the list.
Living in the Hudson Valley we know that there are lots of exciting outdoor spots. We have mountains to climb, rivers to kayak, and endless tracks of linear trails which are old repurposed railroad beds. New York offers mountains, lakes, fields, and forest even oceans.
The Finger Lake Region Makes a Best Of List for Outdoor Getaways
So what part of New York made this list of active outdoor fun put together by Yardbarker? The answer is the Finger Lakes Region. The list includes Indiana Dunes in Indiana and our New York neighbor Stowe, Vermont. The Finger Lakes was listed in the number 3 slot out of 22.
The Northeast did quite well on this list which also includes a spot in Maine and New Hampshire. But what about the Finger Lakes put it in the top 3?
Yardbarker states " ... Upstate (New York) is full of amazing places to enjoy fresh air. The Finger Lakes are home to many bike trails, walking paths, golf courses, and tennis courts."
It has been a few years ... 25 but who's counting since I have traveled to the Finger Lakes. I am sure it is still as great as I remember. There were so many wineries. The little towns had shops full of local items including antiques.
As you can see I didn't do too many outdoor activities but I enjoyed going to the MacKenzie-Childs Shop on the shore of Cayuga Lake in Aurora, New York. It was beyond whimsical.
I also took in a winery or two. That whole area is known for its wine-making.
It looks like another trip to Western New York is on the 2025 trip bucket list.
