Hudson Valley Library Opens Special Hotline for Poetry Month Celebration
Did you know the month of April is National Poetry Month? A local Hudson Valley library has a unique way they're celebrating this year that is getting the community involved.
The History of National Poetry Month
It feels like every day we're learning about new "National Day" celebrations. They seem pretty random and silly most of the time. For instance, April 9th is "Cherish an Antique Day" and August 6th is National Root Beer Float Day.
Sure they're random, but they are fun to celebrate.
April is National Poetry Month and apparently it's been around for almost 30 years. According to Poetry.org, April became National Poetry Month in 1996 and " launched the celebration in 1996 to highlight poetry and encourage its appreciation and readership."
The website goes on to explain that the goal of National Poetry Month is to "increase attention to poetry, support poets and the art form, and encourage the reading and writing of poetry."
Woodstock, New York Library Celebrates Poetry Month With Unique Hotline
The Woodstock Public Library District announced earlier this month that they will be celebrating National Poetry Month in unique fashion.
They have once again opened up their Poetry Hotline! On Facebook they write:
The Poetry Hotline is back! In celebration of National Poetry Month we're putting fresh poems on the hotline each day this month.
