Waiting for a prescription to be filled at one CVS store led a woman to "freak out!"

If you are like the thousands of folks in the Hudson Valley that is in need of medication on a monthly basis and get your prescriptions filled at CVS, I'm wondering if you have noticed that things have changed significantly.

Currently, I have to take one prescription every day so every month I go to the CVS on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie to get it refilled and it seems like every month for the last six there has been a problem with it. I understand that things happen sometimes but as I was waiting for it to be processed the other day I overheard almost every customer in the store saying the same thing. "Why is everything taking so long?"

Here's What Happened

My doctor sent my refill information to the CVS and before I drove to the store to grab it I looked on their app to make sure it was done and it said it was "in process". It didn't say when it would be done or anything so instead of driving there I figured I would call and see if someone could help me.

Calling CVS Isn't Recommended

Have you ever tried to call CVS? It's not an easy thing to do, when they answer it's all automated so you have to input a bunch of info, and if the automated system can't answer your question make sure you give yourself a bunch of time to get a human on the phone. I called earlier this week and waited for 25 minutes before I hung up and decided to just go to the store.

Long Lines at CVS in Poughkeepsie, New York

When I got to the store around 11 a.m. the was a long line of folks waiting so I got in line. After a while, I made it to the front, gave my info, and the cashier told me they didn't have anything for me and that I would need to call my doctor to have them resend my medication information. I told them that it said they had it on the app and that it was "in process" and showed them. He went to talk with the pharmacist and after a few minutes, they figured it out and told me that it would be ready in 20 minutes or so and they would announce my name over the intercom when it was done. OK, so I walked around the store for a while and waited.

Woman Flips Out on Cashier

As I waited I overheard at least 15 others dealing with the same issue I was dealing with and at one point a woman lost her mind on the cashier screaming that she'd been waiting in the store for over an hour and demanded that she be taken care of next!! As she yelled everyone else stood there a bit shocked, but almost everyone agreed with her frustrations giving her the up-and-down head nod. After she calmed down they did get her taken care of. I felt bad for the staff because it isn't their fault but...

How Long Does It Take to Fill a Prescription at CVS?

Does anyone remember when the only "long things" at CVS were the receipts? Obviously, prescription times vary at every CVS location but if you use the one on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie get ready to wait! Wait, don't yell...LOL! Thankfully for me, there was some entertainment while I waited 55 minutes for them to finally call my name but just so you know you might not be so lucky!
