Who Will Unlock Potential At Poughkeepsie's Old YMCA Building?

The City of Poughkeepsie has assumed ownership of the old YMCA building at 35 Montgomery Street, the question is who's going to step up and do something with it? Mayor Rob Rolison of Poughkeepsie has filed a 'request for expressions of interest'. In other words, they're looking for qualified parties who would be interested in purchasing and redeveloping the property in a way that would benefit the community. Four goals have been outlined by the city, each proposal must:

Maximize the development potential of the site and contribute to the vibrancy of the neighborhood.
Provide public health benefits, including possible economic development, social and neighborhood cohesion, facilities, services for youth and young adults and promotes accessibility.
Architecture should complement nearby historic resources.
Must be for educational, recreational and cultural uses.

Built-in 1968 for the YMCA, it has stood vacant since 2009. The parcel includes 3.35 acres of land with around 60,000 square feet of interior floor space. Issues facing potential investors include structural damage, asbestos, and mold. But with all the development going on in the area, Poughkeepsie has some momentum. Serious proposals for the property should be submitted by June 3rd at 3 PM.
