Who Knew Seals Were Hiding in the Hudson?
What else could the Hudson River be hiding? I'm not too sure I want to know the answer to that question, but one of the recent finds is a real treasure.
Just recently National Geographic discovered a 14 foot sturgeon swimming around the Hudson River right near Hyde Park. She was recently named Henrietta thanks to a public vote.
Last Friday, March 8, another creature made its way to the Hyde Park area. I may be biased, but this one is way cuter.
The folks over at the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park shared a video on their Facebook page of a seal perched up on ice lining the river near Bard Rock.
If you have ever visited Vanderbilt Mansion the walk down to Bard Rock isn't too difficult and provides beautiful views of the Hudson.
Who knew that seals could be found on the Hudson River? I sure didn't, but I'm glad that I know now. According to the DEC, in the past few years, young Harp Seals have been known to make their way to the Hudson.
I guess now Henrietta has a new friend... or maybe her next meal? Yikes.
