What’s the Biggest Hudson Valley Lie You Believed?
If you grew up in the Hudson Valley then you have probably heard a story or two about your town that you just weren't quite sure was true but believed it anyway.
Personally, I grew up in Dutchess County and there were three very popular rumors that were always swirling around town. Once every couple of months, there were whispers that a White Castle would be making it's way to food row on route 9 in Poughkeepsie. I still want to believe that one, but that's wishful thinking.
When I was in elementary school in the '90s I remember this one being the talk of the lunch table: The South Hills Mall and the Poughkeepsie Galleria were going to merge into one giant mall. The movie theater and Discovery Zone in one mall!? How amazing would that be?
That merger, as we know, never happened, but the South Hills Mall Facebook account had some fun with it over April Fools' weekend:
And one of my favorite Hudson Valley lies, another that I want to believe so bad, is one regarding the Hudson River and... the Hudson River Monster.
In 2006 there were several sightings of the Hudson River Monster from Manhattan to Poughkeepsie. Allegedly. The Hudson River Monster eventually got a real name. They called it Kipsy. Very fitting.
According to Wikipedia, a very trustworthy source, Kipsy made a return in 2008.
