What’s Finally Moving Into This Abandoned Route 9 Location?
If you're wondering what's happening to a torn down building on Route 9, we have some answers.
The dilapidated building on Route 9 in the Town of Poughkeepsie sat empty for over a year before recently being completely torn down. During the past few weeks, construction crews have been hard at work erecting a new building in its place.
The old building next to Price Chopper on the Southbound side of Route 9 was the former home of Germano's Auto Center and Dutchess Mattress. In 2017 we included it on our tour of the 21 abandoned businesses that were scattered up and down Route 9 in Dutchess County.
Since then, several of the buildings have become occupied by businesses including a new Vitality Bowls that took over Castaldo's Deli, The Golden Corral, which reopened under new management and the Mercury Hotel, currently undergoing a major renovation.
According to Town of Poughkeepsie Supervisor, Jon "Jay" Baisley, the former Germano's Auto Center site will soon reopen as an Emergency One urgent care center. The medical business already has three Hudson Valley locations in Kingston, New Windsor and Hyde Park. A new building is currently under construction in Hyde Park, just next to their current location on Route 9. While it's unclear when the Poughkeepsie branch will be open, the new Hyde Park building is expected to be finished in April.
