It's being done to help boost the hemp industry in New York.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that New York State is now excepting applications to researchers, farmers and businesses that are interested in entering the Hemp industry, according to WTEN.

Back in July, the Governor announced that $10 million in state funds would be available to residents to boost industrial hemp research and development in New York State.

Hemp is a form of cannabis, which has made it illegal to grow in New York, but doesn’t contain the level of THC found in marijuana.

If you become a partner in the New York State Industrial Hemp Agricultural Research Pilot Program, growing Hemp would be authorized by federal and state law, according to the Empire State Development website.

Growers use Hemp to make clothing and such, plus it can be used in food supplements and other products.

If you are a farmer or know of a farmer that would like to be a part of this program, the state agriculture department will accept applications to join the program from now until November 22nd.
