Albany Man Charged After Car Enters Hudson River After Attack

A car was pulled from the Hudson River at an Upstate New York boat launch over the weekend, leading to an attempted murder arrest after police say a woman was strangled and then allegedly dragged from the submerged vehicle and nearly drowned.

According to the Albany Police Department, it all started on Sunday, August 9, around 3 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the Corning Preserve Boat Launch at 20 Quay Street in Albany after receiving reports that a vehicle had driven into the Hudson River.

When officers arrived, they found the vehicle in the water and began an investigation. Police said the investigation determined that the incident was domestic-related and that the victim had been attacked by her brother, 20-year-old Ahmed H. Hemedan of Albany.

According to investigators, Hemedan allegedly strangled the victim, causing her to drive the vehicle into the Hudson River.

But that's not where the incident ended.

Suspect Arrested After Disturbing Attack In Hudson River

Hemedan was arrested by police at the scene. The victim was treated by members of the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel before being transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital. She remains in stable condition.

Albany Man Charged With Attempted Murder

Hemedan has been charged with one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and is expected to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Monday morning. The investigation remains ongoing. When more information becomes available, we will update this article.
