According NBC New York, Verizon confirmed through social media that there was a problem with texting on Tuesday morning, March 12th.

It's being reported that over 4,300 outages were reported early Tuesday morning around 9am. But more outages were reported after the initial reports.

NBC says that Verizon started to reply to reports on Twitter, with one saying "Verizon is currently experiencing a wireless network issue in many eastern areas. Our technicians are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it quickly. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. *NXS"

Additionally NBC reports that the "Down Detector's outage map showed virtually the entire East Coast a blazing red" and adds that not only was New York in the red, but so were Illinois, Ohio and Indiana.
