It's a gift that just may be on your Christmas list this year.

Drones are sure to be a big gift this holiday and the Ulster County Sheriff's Department is set to have one under the tree this year.

Ulster County Sheriff's Captain Vincent Altieri told the Times Herald Record, that the Sheriffs office has decided to purchase a drone to help in certain situations. Situations like a recent standoff in New Paltz back on October 24th when a man, Jon Tozzi, was hiding out alone in his second story apartment when police say he started to fire at them anywhere from 8 to 12 times. Police then took cover behind their patrol cars.

During that standoff, police borrowed a drone from the SUNY New Paltz University Police so they could try and see into the second story apartment the suspect was in.

The Sheriffs office also said they will use the drone to monitor traffic at festivals and concerts and it could also help in the event of a missing person investigation.

The drone will cost around $6500 and should be delivered in the next few weeks.
