UConn Ranks No. 1 in Safest Colleges in America Study
So just how safe is it for students at UConn? Well according to a new study, the school is ranked the safest college in the entire country.
The recent study was conducted by SafeAtLast.com, a security systems and safety website, and it just released its list for the safest colleges in America, and the University of Connecticut was ranked at the top of the list as the safest college in the country.
According to the company, the study used FBI reports and also factored in the crime rates on the college campus, including the number of crimes per 1,000 students and also took a look at the crime rate in the local community's surrounding the colleges.
After digesting all the methodology, the company concluded that UConn is in a safe community, Mansfield, which had a very low crime rate of .73 per 1,000 residents. They also took into account the prominent but non invasive police presence, a University system where no students walk around the campus alone, and a University operated safety website. These metrics combined with the lowest campus crime rate of any other college or university put UConn at number one in a list that includes the Top 50 Safest Colleges in America.
Brigham Young University in Rexburg, Idaho finished as the runner up in this year's study, followed by New York University at number three, and Washington State University at number four.
Some other regional schools that made the Top 50 include the New York Institute of Technology on Long Island in Old Westbury at number fourteen, the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City at number forty four, Kings College in New York at number forty five, Berklee College of Music in Boston at number forty seven, and New England Institute of Technology University in Rhode Island at number fifty.
