While this story is still developing this afternoon, here's what we know at this time. There have been reports of gunfire at the Capitol Visitor Center just a short time ago, around 2:55 pm.

According to CNN, staffers were instructed to shelter in place and to lock all doors. Any individuals outside were instructed to move away from the area as quickly as possible and to seek shelter. It has also been reported that the Supreme Court had closed it's entrances, but that they are now open.

NBC news is reporting that initial reports had a police officer being shot, but that has not been confirmed. Roads near the Visitor Center have been closed and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building.

As this is still a developing story and news outlets are scrambling for details information may change, we will continue to watch it and provide updates as new information comes in.
