Truck Fire Shuts Down Parts of the New York State Thruway (VIDEO)
A late-night truck fire shut down both directions of the New York State Thruway.
Commuters already know that the New York State Thruway is one of the most traveled roads in all of New York. Spanning over 400 miles, it's a highway that many commuters and truckers use each day to various parts of New York and beyond.
Some use it for long-distance travel, while others might only use it for an exit or two, but one thing is for sure: thousands of drivers travel on the thruway each day. Unfortunately, with the high volume of vehicles, this can lead to a number of motor vehicle accidents similar to what happened late Monday night.
Truck Fire Closes Both Directions of New York State Thruway
According to the Woodbury Fire Department (WFD), a tractor-trailer (above) caught fire Monday night as it was traveling onto the New York State Thruway from Route 17 in Harriman, NY.

First responders reported that the truck erupted into flames on the northbound entrance ramp to the thruway at approximately 11 p.m. Monday, forcing the road to be closed in both directions for an extended period of time.
Fire Extinguished
First responders worked for about an hour to extinguish the fire (video below) and are reporting that the driver of the truck made it out with no injuries. As you can see in the pictures, the tractor-trailer was a complete loss.
The fire department didn't say what caused the truck to catch fire or what it was hauling but did thank the other departments that assisted in fighting the fire including, the Monroe Fire Department, Harriman Engine Co., Mombasha Fire Company, Monroe-Lakeside Fire and Rescue Company, Woodbury Community Ambulance, Highland Mills Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and Woodbury EMS.
