Destructive winds in the Hudson Valley knocked a tree onto a home, injuring a 4-year-old, and blew the roof off a local fire department. Over 20,000 area residents lost power Monday.

Around 3:30 p.m. Ulster County 911 center received a call for a reported tree that fell onto a home on South Road in the Town of Ulster which caused extensive damage.

Both police and fire units responded to the home and helped remove a 4-year-old from the home. The child was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries and for further evaluation.

Monday evening, strong winds in Dutchess County blew off the roof at the Hopewell Hose Company firehouse located on Route 376 in Hopewell Junction. No one was injured and the fire department was still able to respond to calls, officials say.

Destructive wind gust left over 20,000 without power in the area. Central Hudson reports power has been restored to over 10,000 while Con Edison crews restored electrical service to nearly 11,500 customers affected by the powerful winds.

As of this writing, Central Hudson is reporting 2,926 customers are without power.
