New York's Longest Toboggan Chute in Lake Placid, NY
The Lake Placid Toboggan Chute, which has been in operation since the 1960's, offers riders the chance every winter to slide down an ice-covered chute, according to the Town of North Elba.
The chute was recently rebuilt from the ground up and was converted from a 30 foot high ski jump into a toboggan chute, giving riders the chance to glide down and out onto the frozen Mirror Lake. Depending on weather conditions, toboggans can travel over 1,000 feet once they reach the frozen lake surface.

When Does the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute Open?
Each year, the official opening day for New York's longest toboggan chute varies due to weather conditions. Some years they've opened in December, others not until February, but due to the colder temperatures this year, the chute is now open.

The chute, which is located on Parkside Drive in Lake Placid, NY, is now open on weekends, offering guests the chance to ride on Fridays from 7-9 p.m., Saturdays from Noon–4 p.m. & 7–9 p.m, and Sundays from Noon-3 p.m.
How Much Does it Cost?
This year's admission is $20 for adults and $10 for students, and it includes a toboggan rental. Remember, with paid admissions, riders can slide as much as they can during the scheduled time. All payments must be made with a credit/debit card, as they don't accept cash.
What To Wear
Since this is an outdoor activity, guests should dress warmly, wear winter boots, and leave the expensive ski pants at home, as the friction created during the ride can often wear through certain types of ski wear.
The town also requires that all riders be in good health and free from heart conditions, motion sickness, back or neck problems, or any other physical limitations.
