Many places we visit during our life leave us with lasting memories. Sometimes it is a trip to see a friend. Other times it is a breathtaking destination and sometimes it is as simple as a memorial that is more than you could ever imagine.

Yes, I have been to some cool places, the Grand Canyon, Crater Lake, even both Disneys, but nothing compared to my first visit to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. Back more than 20 years ago when I was visiting friends in Maryland we decide to go monument hopping. Basically, that meant we were going to try to go to as many monuments as we could in a short time.

The Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall in Middletown, New York.

I should probably also mention that this group usually did this after hours when most of the tourists we had gone. It is actually really cool to see the monument at night all it up. I can still remember what it felt like to walk up to the memorial.

The way it is designed you don't see it until you are next to it and descending down the sidewalk alongside the black walls that begin to loom overhead. That's when you realize how many names are there, names of soldiers that didn't come home. It is so humbling and silent. It truly is dramatic.

The Wall in DC is something you have to see but until you get there you can experience the Wall in person right here in the Hudson Valley on Sept 15 through the 18th in Middletown New York. The Wall That Heals, a scaled replica of the Vietnam Memorial will be in town and offering all of us an opportunity to visit and remember the brave people who fought in the Vietnam War that gave it all for our country.

The replica will be on display at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Middletown at 84 Euclid Avenue from 12 PM on September 15 through 2 PM on September 18th, 2022. It is a 3/4 scale replica of the monument in Washington DC. The event is being sponsored by Orange County Tourism NY and The Wall That Heals: Middletown.
