We are all familiar with D-Day which was the biggest seaborne invasion in history and happened on June 6, 1944 during World War II.

However, did you know that D-Day is linked to the Hudson Valley?  Winston Churchill flew into what is now Duchess County/Hudson Valley Regional Airport for a meeting with President Roosevelt.

FDR even picked him up at the airport and drove him to Hyde Park where he was seen relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

It's nice to know that even back then this was viewed as a beautiful area that was away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

History.com recently did an extensive story on the planning, meeting, execution of D-Day and more in remembrance of it's 75th Anniversary this year.

I was always good at history in school and usually I can recall hearing about or reading about things but this one, this was a nice surprise.
