I grew up in the 60's and 70's when everyone smoked. This article is not going to get into the the good, the bad and the ugly of smoking, instead I want to focus in a popular smoking accessory which seems to be making a come back.

Like many of you I enjoy antiques. I can spend my weekends endlessly going to auctions, yard sales and thrift shops and feel like I was on a great adventure. I love just buying old stuff. Over the last few years I have noticed a trend. I noticed that ashtrays started selling again and sometimes for a good price. I also noticed that they weren't necessarily being bought by smokers.

Turns out that ashtrays make a great catch all on a dresser or even next to the front door. I don't think they will replace the key hook or the bowl on the table any time soon but I do know a lot of folks who like the big old ashtrays to hold change or even jewelry.

Ashtrays are also making a come back with the legalization of Marijuanas. Many folks who are using cannabis products are also bring back some of the classic smoking accessories including the "Mad Men" style coffee table lighters with built in or matching cigarette holders.

Here are a few Ashtrays I found recently in a Hudson Valley Antique Shop in New Paltz.
